Nissan developed the R390 GT1 with Tom Walkinshaw Racing to contest Le Mans under GT1 rules, building a road-going version to satisfy homologation. In 1998 all four of the twin-turbo V8 coupes ran the full 24 hours, with the best of them finishing on the overall podium.
